The segment was inspired by a casual on-air conversation about how hard – and how easy – it is to host a show.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be the host of South Africa's most popular morning radio show? Now's your chance to find out! On Tuesday morning, Jacaranda FM's Martin Bester, Philicity Liecken and Zola Ntinsha will hand the microphone over to their listeners. How difficult is it? segment.
The segment was inspired by casual on-air chat about how hard or easy it is to host the show, and long-time Jacaranda FM favourite Martin Bester turned the fun debate into a real opportunity for listeners to take their place in the spotlight.
“We were talking about the behind-the-scenes efforts that go into making the show engaging,” Martin explains, “and we thought it would be fun and challenging to give our listeners a try. It would be a perfect fit for our 'How Hard Can It Be?' segment.”

On Tuesday, a few lucky listeners will have the chance to take on roles such as delivering traffic and sports news, or even take Martin's seat as the main host – a rare opportunity to experience the excitement and challenges of morning radio.
Martin is excited to see how the challenge unfolds: “I can't wait to see our listeners in action behind the microphone. This isn't just for fun – it's about giving listeners a glimpse into what we do on a day-to-day basis and giving them a feel for the excitement of live radio. I hope it will give them a new appreciation for what we do and inspire them to become future broadcasters.”
