Over the past year, Painter has spotlighted SA music across a variety of genres, including pop, hip-hop and amapiano.
Jacaranda FM's Danny Painter championed local music on his show Former SABC boss Hraudi Motsonen's 2108 dream could come true, albeit years later.
“We have 11 cultures, 11 languages, and just like us, at some point they intertwine. There's a fusion,” Painter said.
Over the past year, Painter has conducted 129 interviews, hosted debut performances with local artists, and spotlighted the best of South African music across genres including pop, hip-hop, amapiano, rock and Afro-house. It's here.
This goes far beyond the local music already played on Jacaranda FM and is sure to put a smile on Motsoeneng's face.
In 2018, while still the public broadcaster's chief financial officer, Motsoneng announced that SABC radio stations, with the exception of Metro FM and 5FM, must play 90% local music. This was more than 35% of the quota.

Fraudy's dream came true
Although 90% Norma never saw the light of day, Painter has celebrated local music and talent through his shows.
“We're not afraid to experiment and throw something at the wall and see if it sticks. We have this tenacity, an innate stubbornness, and that's what makes what we create. I love it because it drives me to create and show it to the world,” she said, reflecting on South Africa's eclectic music culture.
The painter comes from a family of media personalities. Her father, DJ Choc, is a legendary producer and DJ. Her mother, Sandy Ngwenya, is an entertainment icon. Her uncle DJ ZAN-D is a hip-hop DJ.
Painter is a creative himself, with a passion for house music tracks and South African pop.

“I really love music and really love getting to know artists and the songs they give us intimately.”
“I've learned a lot from the interviews I've done over the years, and I think each song and each interaction has its moment and stands out on its own.”
When asked who has caught her eye recently, she mentioned PHFAT.
“You can't go wrong with a live show. There's nothing better than that. If you get a chance to see him, buy a ticket,” she said.
She's also into Lee Cole's single blindnessshe calls it the song of the year.
Regarding new and emerging voices, the host said he was enjoying the latest songs by Sax Beat Twins. houseand the “authentic and deep” writings of Simone Govender.
Her recommendations include Freddy L and Ben die Afrikaan, whom she discovered on TikTok.
“Ben is going to be our new poet. He's a young Koos Konbui, but much cooler,” she says.
