former tonight show Host Jay Leno has filed for conservatorship of his wife Mavis' estate after she was diagnosed with dementia.

Jay Leno files for conservatorship of wife
according to people Magazine, Jay Leno filed on Friday, January 26th. He noted in court documents that a conservatorship was initiated to establish a living trust for Mavis. This is to ensure that if he dies before her, she has “control of his assets” to provide for her future care.
Leno noted that his wife agreed to establish a conservatorship. He also said that Mavis does not like having someone else serve as her guardian.
The former late-night TV host also asked a judge to prevent Mavis from attending a court hearing regarding the conservatorship, saying it would have a “negative impact on her mental and physical health.”
This is reportedly the first time Jay has spoken publicly about his wife's medical condition.
“Unfortunately, Mavis has been gradually losing her ability and orientation to space and time over the past few years. Unable to carry out an estate plan in Mavis' current state, Jay agrees to comply with her wishes regarding Mavis's disposition. “We have petitioned the court to be appointed conservator of Mavis' estate for the sole purpose of filing a motion for substitute judgment on her behalf to ensure that her assets are realized upon her death,'' the court said. It is stated in the document.

“It just seemed like the right thing to do.”
Jay and Mavis have been married for 43 years.
In 2022, Jay recovers from second and third degree burns caused by a gasoline fire. Leno was reportedly working on a steam engine under a car in his garage at the time of the fire.
In December 2022, Jay today On the show, he talked about how worried he was for his wife during the ordeal. Even though doctors told him to go to the hospital immediately, Jay decided to go home first.
“My wife doesn't drive anymore, and I didn't want her to be stranded and not know what was going on. It seemed like the right thing to do, and I think it was the right thing to do.” he said.
