The Joburg Film Festival (JFF) on Tuesday announced “Golden Thread” as the theme for its seventh edition, scheduled for March 2025.
This theme embraces Joburg's identity as the 'Golden City', with stories serving as the most precious treasures that illuminate the lives of its residents and reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse global community. .
“This represents the unbreakable connection that storytelling forms between individuals, communities and cultures,” affirmed JFF founder Tim Mangwedi.
The festival brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from around the world to share experiences and build connections through the universal language of film.
This year's theme focused on inspiring storytellers who captivate audiences around the world, further celebrating legends in film.
In light of this year's 30th anniversary of South African democracy, the theme for 2024 is reflective and forward-looking.

Mangwedi said that through its selection of films, JFF aims to show how stories, like threads, intertwine to create a larger tapestry of shared human experience.
Now in its seventh year, the JFF will screen over 60 carefully selected local, African and international titles, including fiction and documentary feature films and shorts, with several notable world premieres already confirmed. .
“This is a celebration of connecting, learning from each other, and recognizing the meaningful impact our stories can have on the world.”
The festival is scheduled to take place from March 11th to 16th, 2025.
One of the local films screened at the festival is Sebataa dark South African detective thriller directed by Norman Make.

Broadcaster MultiChoice is a festival partner and its General Entertainment CEO Nomsa Phiriso echoed Mangwedi, saying the JFF is a celebration of stories that bring people together.

In addition to the film program, the festival will feature an industry program at the Joburg Exchange (JBX), incorporating JBX Business (Marketplace), JBX Talks and JBX Youth.
