African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has joined the South African Communist Party (SACP) to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of former South African Communist Party (SACP) general secretary and national chairman Joe Slovo in Soweto.
The ANC says its participation in today's commemoration is an opportunity to reflect on Slovo's revolutionary ideals and the common mission to advance the national democratic revolution.
The two countries' alliance partners are scheduled to hold bilateral talks later this month on the issue, which includes more than 22 years of alliance realignment discussions.

Mr Ramaphosa said Slobo had been sound in strategy and action.
“As a liberation movement, more specifically as an alliance, as a broader democracy movement, and as South Africans, we must acknowledge that the mission for which he devoted his life is not yet complete. It's our shared responsibility to finish the job Joe Slovo started. It's our responsibility as an alliance to pick up the fallen spear.
