INZEL, Germany (AP) – Jordan Stolz became the youngest all-around speed skating world champion since Eric Heiden and the first American since Shani Davis to win the title, making Sunday's dominant performance the best in history. He finished with a total of points.
Stolz, 19, started the day with a record, finishing the 1,500 meters in 1:41.78 at the Max Eicher Arena. He then shaved 13 seconds off his personal best time in the 10,000 meter dash.
He is from Wisconsin, position yourself as one of the biggest stars At the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics, he scored a total of 144.740 points, 0.821 points better than the previous individual all-around mark set by Patrick Rost of the Netherlands in 2019 at the Altitude Oval in Calgary, Canada.
“I was defeated by a phenomenon,” said Roest, a three-time world champion who now settles for second place behind Stolz. “He's just incredibly strong and can do all distances, even beating distance specialists in his own event. What he's doing is very special.”
The teenager became the youngest all-around world champion since Heiden achieved the feat in 1977 at the age of 18. Davis became the last American skater to win the title in 2006.
Norway's Hargeir Engebraten won the bronze medal.
Stoltz became the fifth American to win the title, joining Heiden (1977, 1978, 1979), Eric Frame (1988), Chad Hedrick (2004) and Davis (2005, 2006).
Hedrick was the last male skater to win the world all-around title on his first try.
“I'm glad to be able to do this with other Americans,” Stolz said. “It's truly an honor.”
Last month, Stolz won the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m world titles at the single-distance championships in Calgary. His performance at the All Round Championship capped off one of the best seasons in speed skating history.
Stolz's incredible growth has given rise to speculation that he might rival Heiden as the only skater to win Olympic gold medals in all five individual distances from 500 meters to 10,000 meters.
But Stolz said that's an unrealistic goal. When asked if he could compete with the world's top athletes for the longest distance, he answered, “It's impossible to maintain (speed) at 500 meters. If you only focus on 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, you can do that, but I can't do that.” he said. I don't think you can do both. ”
In the women's race, the powerful Dutch team dominated the podium.
Joy Buhne defeated teammates Marieke Groenewoud and Antoinette Rijma de Jong to win her first all-around world title.
