EFF leader Julius Malema has spoken out about the furore surrounding Miss South Africa candidate Chidinma Vanessa Adesina.
The beauty queen made it all the way to the top 13 but some South Africans went to great lengths to have her disqualified because of her Nigerian and Mozambican descent.
Chidinma, who was born in South Africa, was banned from Twitter due to cyberbullying and harassment.
In a recent interview, Malema was asked for his position on the issue and he responded in support of Chidinma.
Julius Malema said the 23-year-old was eligible to take part in the competition because she was different to her parents.
“Nationality is determined by where you are born. If she was born here she is South African, that is not the issue. Chidimma Vanessa Ongwe is who she is and not her parents so why say she is from Nigeria or Mozambique when she was born here,” he said.
“You can't punish someone because of where their parents are from. I haven't followed the debate and I don't know if she's South African or not. Miss SA They would have carried out the necessary due diligence,” he added.
