King Monada is in trouble after failing to show up to a music event despite being booked to do so.
South African musicians continue to face lawsuits for unprofessional conduct.
Impresario Eric Thoka hauled the musician to the Lithabi Magistrate's Court in Nkowankhowa, outside Tsaneng, Limpopo, after Monada refused to give him a refund for not performing at a festival organised by Thoka on New Year's Day last year.
Thoka told Sunday World that King Monada was paid R49,000 to serenade the king and queen of Lebowakgomo county, outside Polokwane, on New Year's Day last year, but it was a disappointment.
“On the day he was due to perform, we called to find out his location and he replied that he was apparently in Pretoria, attending another concert, and assured us he would be on time for our show,” he said.
“We were there until 5pm the next day because we had to remove the stage and the sound system we were using. Afterwards, he called me and said he came for the show but couldn't find us, which was a lie. We then asked him for a refund and he said we should organise another show. But we refused and told him that that's not how we do business and we value refunds,” he said.
Toca said Monada then complained that he had been deprived by appointing him as the lead actor in the show but failing to pay the associated fees.
“We told him he's not the main character,” he said.
“But after not receiving my money for several months, I decided to take legal action.”
Meanwhile, King Monada is currently on trial for failing to attend the event.
