former Vuz TV personality Lara Hirayama revealed that her car almost hit a long tree over the weekend.
Lala Hirayama: “I slammed on the brakes”
On Sunday, April 7th, entertainer Lala Hirayama shared a photo of a long tree in front of her car on her Instagram.
“As we were driving down this road, just seconds before I hit the brakes, this insanely long tree fell down. The guy in the photo came up to the car and reassured me that we hadn’t been crushed. He blessed me.”
Hirayama's post came after the South African Weather Service issued a warning of a severe weather pattern over the weekend, including heavy rain, strong winds and low temperatures.
Winds wreak havoc in Cape Town
The Cape Argus reported that almost 41 schools in the Cape Winelands, Overberg and Helderberg will close on Monday, April 8.
This is due to strong winds that continue to cause damage across the Western Cape.
“Wind speeds of up to 100km/h are expected to continue today over the weekend. The winds have caused infrastructure damage in Paarl, Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Meanwhile, on Sunday in Makassar, Sea Point and Philippi A large number of trees were uprooted,” the publication added.
A video of a truck trailer being blown off the N1 bridge and approaching the Huguenot tunnel also trended on social media this weekend.
Another video of a caravan being unhinged from its vehicle and blown away on the same bridge went viral on X.
South African National Highways Authority (Sanral) Huguenot Tunnel project manager Mike Vinello-Lippert said the truck driver was safe and uninjured, Jacaranda FM reported.
