As Gauteng residents wait for the announcement of the new provincial cabinet, political commentator Professor Sipho Seepu says Premier Panyaza Lesufi is likely to have a similar makeup to President Cyril Ramaphosa's Government of National Unity.
Mr Lesufi is expected to announce the members of the Executive Committee (MEC) this evening.
President Ramaphosa announced his new cabinet last night.
Mr Lesufi was due to announce the state elections last Sunday but they were postponed indefinitely.
As in the rest of the country, the ANC failed to win a majority in Gauteng and was forced to form a provincial unity government.
“The fact that Panyaza Lesufi has not been able to move forward is a reflection of the challenges the ANC and DA have at the national level. So in a way, that message has been sent to Panyaza Lesufi. It's also the reality on the ground, the ANC in Gauteng is not doing well and partnerships need to be formed. And if the DA works together at the national level, he can invite them in. He had to wait to be guided by the national rollout to create a sense of continuity and consistency,” Seep says.
