The jazz saxophonist collaborated with Universal Music Group Africa on the new album.
Jazz saxophonist Linda Shikakane has released a new album. IradiI made it just in time for their highly anticipated performance at NYO Jazz.
For this new release, the musician collaborated with Universal Music Group Africa and Blue Note.
Shikakane said: Iradi As a musical reflection of African ritual, wisdom and traditional Zulu cultural heritage that has deeply influenced his life.
He explained: “Iradi In African tradition, it is a multipurpose ritual. As I have watched my journey unfold over the years with deep guidance, I have felt a strong sense of using this offering as a response to divine grace.”
The album is a tribute to the mentorship and talent Linda has received throughout his career and represents a significant milestone in his artistic growth.
He said he hopes the work will be an inspiration to other musicians.
Talk about inspiration IradiLinda said: “This album started from a strong desire to tell a story and music is my outlet. What was special about making this album was being in the room with musicians who inspire me.”
“With the help of Standard Bank, I saw this as an opportunity to realise my dream. When preparing an album, it's easy to predict the outcome, but I learnt that music has the power to guide itself.”

Linda Shikakane's New York jazz performance
NYO Jazz, made up of talented young musicians aged 16-19 from across the United States, is set to make its South African debut later this month.
The spectacular concert will take place at Johannesburg's Market Theatre on July 26th and will feature Linda.
The concert will be conducted by trumpeter and educator Sean Jones and will feature guest soloist Alicia Olatuja.
