Apparently, not even his sparkly Louboutin shoes could secure EFF leader Julius Malema entry into the VVIP area at Durban July.
Last year, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema came under fire for showing off a watch worth millions of dollars at a July horse racing event in Durban.
This year, the politician made a “mistake” on race day by wearing shoes that cost more than most South Africans earn in a month…
Internet users slammed Malema for wearing Corteo on Spikes Oxford shoes and claiming to be a champion for the rights of the poor.
His stylish shoes are advertised on the website of luxury brand Christian Louboutin for $1,545 (about R28,000).

Over the years, the outspoken politician and his wife, Mantwa Matlala, have been regulars in Durban July.
The mantwa was a silky shell grey creation by designer Mafefa Ndaba, adorned with a dazzling string of pearls, echoing this year's theme, “Ride the Waves.”
Juju, 43, got dressed up in a black tie suit by Sifiso Mazibuko from luxury brand Master Suits, and of course finished off the look with spike heel shoes.

“Advocate for the poor, huh?” Rob Chandler commented online.
Another X user, @iamzizir, added: “How can you represent the poor when your suit costs more than the income of an entire household? In parliament you wear overalls and boots claiming to be part of the poor but in real life you live in luxury and dress like a superstar. Are the overalls just a pretense to get votes?”
@notinheritable said Malema is “fighting for the poor in Armani”.
Malema ignoring VVIPs?
Unconfirmed claims on social media said Malema was not allowed into the secured VVIP area where KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli was mingling with other politicians during Durban July on Saturday.
Malema allegedly “parked his car outside” Greyville Racecourse and had to walk to the tent.

Malema has been criticised many times in the past for his lavish lifestyle.
In April this year, Juju posted pictures on her Instagram account looking glamorous and confident at her son Ratanang's high school dance, helping him get ready and groomed for the big night out, and chauffeuring his Mercedes G-Wagon, worth R3.3 million.
