Sir Ian McKellan was rushed to hospital after falling off the stage during a performance.
Ian McKellan, the British actor who played Gandalf in the film “Gandalf”, Lord of the Ring McKellan, who worked on the film trilogy, was rushed to hospital on Monday after falling from the stage during a show in London.
The 85-year-old actor said, Player King The play was playing at the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End, and AFP reports that he slipped during a fight scene.
During the scene, McKellan reportedly fell off the stage and the audience heard him “crying in pain.”
The lights were quickly switched back on and theatre staff and medical personnel rushed to help, with the actor being rushed to hospital, according to Express.
As a result, audience members were evacuated from the theater, the remaining performances were canceled, and tickets were refunded.
“Following tests, the excellent NHS team have reassured us that he will make a swift and full recovery and is in good spirits,” a theatre spokesman said on Tuesday.
“Production has made the decision to cancel the show on Tuesday, June 18th to allow Ian to rest.”
He is due to return to the stage on Wednesday.
“We'd like to thank audience members and members of the public for the outpouring of sympathy following Ian's fall during this evening's performance of Player Kings,” a spokesman said.
McKellan is X-Men Screen star John F Kelly is one of Britain's best-known actors, having won numerous awards during a career spanning six decades of stage and screen.
Player King The production marks a return to Shakespeare for McKellen, combining two of Shakespeare's history plays about Henry IV.
