It was reported that the LXQt 2.0 desktop environment was released this week. 9to5Linux. It also provides support for Qt 6 (and a new default application menu) as well as support for the Wayland display protocol in more components.
LXQt Development is confident that the next major release, LXQt 2.1, will be fully compatible with Wayland. Components that need to be ported to Wayland include ScreenGrab, LXQt global shortcuts, LXQt panel taskbar and keyboard indicators, some input settings, monitor, power button, and screen locker settings.
“Wayland will be the primary target for LXQt 2.1.0, just as Qt6 was the target for LXQt 2.0.0,” the developers said. “Most Wayland compositors have tools that can be used instead, and if you're an advanced user he or she is already capable of LXQt-Wayland sessions.”
According to , the lightweight Linux distribution Lubuntu uses LXQtplace instead of GNOME, and Lubuntu 24.04 LTS will include an optional Wayland session in addition to the default Xorg session. 9to5Linux:
I've said it before and I'll say it again. 2024 is the year of the Wayland desktop…the Lubuntu team plans to support Xorg sessions until 2026 to help users with older GPUs…but the tables will be turned. The Lubuntu 24.10 release will be released next year and will ship with Wayland by default.
