“Emergency measures”
Meanwhile, IEC chairman Mosotho Mopiya said the commission had taken special measures to ensure there was no fraud in next Wednesday's elections.
Moepya said these measures relate to the capture and verification of results at each polling station, independent audits and real-time access to data to stakeholders.
He said that because this election was so contested, it was also necessary to run various simulations using past data to test the abilities of election staff.
Mr Moepya said the commission has also adopted a rapid response system to quickly and decisively address discrepancies in election results.
“We asked them to sit down at a workstation and we fed this data to them in our system and simulated Election Day. This serves two purposes: to test their capabilities and skills in managing Election Day, but also to test the system's ability to process that data in a real-world environment.”
