Roodepoort Magistrates' Court heard on Wednesday that a man accused of dousing two women with petrol and setting them on fire intends to plead guilty.
Mark Brian Harvey is charged with murder and arson.
“We believe that the accused [Harvey]”He told the court through his lawyer that he intended to plead guilty to two counts of murder,” said National Prosecuting Authority Phindi Mjonondwane.
Mr Mjonondwayne said the case had been adjourned until April 17 so his lawyer could consult Mr Harvey about a guilty plea.
Harvey allegedly doused Marishka Davids and her friend Zakiya Reiman with gasoline and set them on fire at their Johannesburg, Florida, apartment on February 11.
Neighbors rushed to the women's rescue and put out the flames, which covered them from head to toe, with wet pillows.
Mr David and Mr Harvey were said to have been involved in an argument before the incident.
Davids died on the operating table at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital last Wednesday, and Rayman also died at the same hospital on February 18.
