Manchester City lost the Champions League title to Real Madrid in a dramatic quarter-final match at the Etihad Stadium, losing on penalties.
The holders came back from behind with an early attack from Rodrigo to surround Real's goal, and finally equalized 14 minutes from the end of normal time when Kevin De Bruyne pounced on Antonio Rudiger's clearance.
This was the bare minimum given City's near-total domination, but Real, despite an exhausted and desperate rearguard action, held on for a spot-kick, giving them the finishing touch. The lack of it took its toll.
City looked set to face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals after Luka Modric missed Real's first penalty, but Bernardo Silva's frightening effort and substitute Mateo Kovacic's effort saw keeper Andriy Lunin A save was made and former Chelsea defender Rudiger stepped up to seal the win. Great specialists of the Champions League.
The game ended City's bid for a further treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup, but they will need to secure the latter in Saturday's semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley. I have to get back on my feet.
More to come.
