Mango Groove will hold a one-night-only event at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens on Sunday.
Before there was Freshlyground or Kujenga, there was Mango Groove, an 11-piece band.
Founded in 1984, the ensemble has been winning the hearts of South Africans through song for over 40 years.
To celebrate this milestone, Mango Groove will host a one-night-only event at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens on Sunday.
“40 years, what a journey! We're so excited to celebrate this milestone at a special venue like Kirstenbosch, where we have so many fond memories,” said Clare, lead singer of Mango Groove. Johnston said.
Dubbed “Memories and Moments,” the concert is a celebratory journey through four decades of hits, history, and hearts.

Over the years, Mango Groove has managed to remain consistent in their work and remain relevant in an oversaturated live music space.
“The essence of Mango Groove is the live show. It's very much about live music and the live experience. In some ways, the whole market has changed now,” said John Lyden, a founding member of the band. email and guardian About ten years ago.
“We have never stopped performing, but we are very selective about the shows we do. There is a risk in the South African market, which is very small, that we could outstay our welcome. That's why we often appear in two shows a year.”
Mango Groove has six albums and numerous singles.
Mr Lyden said one of the group's most memorable performances was at Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994.

“We were overjoyed to attend Nelson Mandela's inaugural concert in 1994, South Africa's first democratic inaugural concert, with 100,000 people on the lawn,” said Lyden. Ta.
