Research conducted by Flight Center Travel Group reveals that many South Africans are traveling abroad in search of love.
looking for love abroad
The fact that South Africa is often difficult in many areas of life may be a factor driving young people to seek love abroad.
It may also be an ideal opportunity to open the door to greener pastures with a new found partner.
travel survey
According to Travel News, a survey of 4,050 Millennial and Gen Z respondents (ages 18 to 42) revealed some surprising results.
The survey, which included participants from several English-speaking countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK, revealed that the majority of South Africans travel to find love.
Investigation result
The survey found that 63% of South Africans reported actively seeking love while traveling abroad.
In second place were New Zealanders, with 59% saying holidays were the best place to find love.
Responses from other countries were significantly lower: Australia at 40%, Canada at 41% and the UK at 23%.
Traveling alone
The report also revealed that travelers have a growing desire to travel on their own.
As a result, 60% of survey participants said they were “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to travel alone.
journey for love
Many find a husband, wife, or life partner while backpacking through Asia, partying on Greek islands, working on a kibbutz, or strolling through Paris.
The idea of finding love and romance while traveling abroad is not new. The plot behind many movies is based on this idea.
While traveling, you are often placed in a new mental and emotional space, allowing you to explore and experience new paradigms.
“This passion for finding love across borders may come from South Africans' sense of adventure and openness to new experiences. The diversity of cultures and landscapes around the world makes for meaningful connections. It provides the perfect backdrop to build upon,” Euan McNeill, MD of South African Airways Center Travel Group, told Travel News.
