Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter on Tuesday named a 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled for June 1-29 in West Indies and the United States.
Aiden Markram will captain the team in his first World Cup assignment as captain. There are two players in the South African squad, including Ryan Rickelton and Ottoniel Baartman, who are making their T20I debuts.
There is no room in the squad for former captain Themba Bavuma or veteran Faf du Plessis, and Lungi Ngidi is also absent.
Rickelton scored 530 runs for MI Cape Town at an average of 58.88, finishing as the top run scorer in the 2nd SA20. Meanwhile, fast bowler Bartman took 18 wickets in eight matches for defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and is currently playing for Indians in the Premier League (IPL) against Delhi Capitals.
The Proteas will also benefit from the batting expertise of Quinton de Kock, Leeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs, who had a stellar IPL with Delhi Capitals.
