South Africans have much to celebrate after knocking African Cup of Nations favorites Morocco out of the tournament. But does this mean Bafana Bafana are 'better' than Euro champions Portugal or 'GOATed' player Ronaldo?
These are the words on X Street after a tweet mocked the Atlas Lions, who eliminated Cristiano's home country from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
SA will face Cape Verde in the Afcon quarter-finals on Saturday 2 February.

Tweet claims SA is 'better' than Portugal
On social media platform X, Bafana Bafana fans used their team's victory to rub salt in Morocco's wounds.
And leading the way were the players who celebrated their victory by imitating Cristiano Ronaldo's famous goal pose.
In 2022, Ronaldo cried bitterly after Morocco eliminated Portugal in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

But “Black Twitter” wasn't content with just making fun of Morocco. Many people also targeted Portugal. By “deductive reasoning” many people have drawn some interesting conclusions…
@PandaNoComply: “South Africa did what Portugal couldn't do. They respected Bafana Bafana.”
@_Ceeyus_G: “Even star-studded Portugal couldn't beat this Moroccan team…But here comes Bafana Bafana.”
@_mishumo_: “So basically Bafana Bafana are better than Portugal.”
Bafana Bafana Achievements
South Africans praise the current team, but it wasn't always this way. And that has a lot to do with the national team's performance.
SA has only participated in the FIFA World Cup three times, in 1998, 2002 and 2010. Additionally, Mzansi qualified for his 2010 tournament by default as the host nation.

Bafana Bafana have also never made it out of the group stage.
Although Portugal has never won a World Cup, they have appeared in the World Cup eight times.
According to FIFA, Portugal are ranked 7th in the world, while SA are ranked 66th.
