The award was also presented to the late Dr Mbongeni Ngema and others who have left a lasting impact on the South African television and film industry.
Actor Melusi Yeni was one of the grand prize winners at the 2024 Simon Mabunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards.
The awards ceremony was hosted by TV stars Nomalanga Shozi and cheeky Nokwazi and took place at Durban Playhouse last weekend on Saturday 20 July.
In celebration of his award for Best Supporting Actor in the Television category, generation The actor expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
“I want to express my gratitude for reminding me that I am part of this community of storytellers, and the work I've put in over the years is being recognized and appreciated.”
“It gives me great joy to receive this award in my beloved province of KwaZulu-Natal. Thank you so much,” Melusi said.
KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Board interim chief executive officer Sibusiso Ngumbi said he was proud of all the winners and nominees who continue to raise the bar and push the boundaries of creativity.
“These awards are testament to the incredible talent available in KwaZulu-Natal and the incredible impact of our filmmakers and television industry people. We have breathtaking landscapes and a vibrant culture,” he said.
“KwaZulu-Natal remains a favourite film shooting location for filmmakers and tourists,” Gumbi added.
