Meta has announced that it will update its AI-generated content policy and add a “Made with AI” label starting next month. This policy applies to content on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. From the report: Meta acknowledges that its current policy is “too narrow in scope” and says it will begin labeling more video, audio and image content as AI-generated. The labels will be applied if a user discloses the use of an AI tool or if Meta detects an “industry standard AI image indicator,” but the company did not provide details about the detection system.
This change was informed by recommendations and feedback from Meta's Oversight Board and updates the Operational Media Policy created in 2020. The old policy bans videos created or edited using AI tools that make people say things they didn't say, but it doesn't cover a wide range of content. The range of AI-generated content flooding the web these days. “Over the past four years, and especially in the last year, this technology has evolved rapidly, with the development of other types of AI-generated realistic content, such as audio and photos,” Mehta wrote in a blog post. “As the board noted, it is equally important to address manipulation that makes it appear that a person is doing something they are not doing.”
