The US said the airstrike lasted about 30 minutes and targeted three facilities in Iraq and four in Syria.
“U.S. forces have struck more than 85 targets at seven facilities used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and extremist groups it supports, including three in Iraq,” said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby. “There are four facilities in Syria,” he said.
“A large number of aircraft, including B-1 bombers from the United States, participated in the operation, firing more than 125 precision-guided missiles over a period of approximately 30 minutes.
“Target facilities include command and control centers, as well as headquarters buildings, information centers, storage facilities for rockets, missiles, and unmanned aircraft, as well as logistics and ammunition supply chain facilities. carefully selected and based on clear and irrefutable evidence that they are related to attacks on U.S. military personnel in the region.
“The Department of Defense is in the early stages of assessing damage from the battle, but believes the attack was a success.”
He said the White House does not know the number of militants killed or injured, but that U.S. military aircraft are currently out of danger.
Kirby said the United States did not notify Iraq of its attack before it was carried out.
He stressed that the United States does not want war with Iran and said that communications with Iran have been cut off since Sunday, when three American service members were killed in Jordan.
