With the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) expected to announce the results of the general elections soon, Defence Minister Thandi Modise has appealed to political parties to respect the constitution.
Minister Modise was speaking at a ministerial briefing for the Justice, Crime, Prevention and Security Cluster in Pretoria.
Twenty-five political parties filed a complaint with the commission.
Modise said political parties should respect the law.
“We hope that our plea to all parties will reach all involved. Those who saw the incident and those who did not are equally affected, so we do not want to have discussions with any particular party. We are asking South Africans to respect South African laws.”

The National Joint Operations Intelligence Team (NATJOINTS) issued a stern warning to those not satisfied with the election results and seeking to retaliate with lawless acts.
NATJOINTS and the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster stressed that any attempt to undermine the authority of the state will not be tolerated.
The ministers also confirmed that no special negotiations would be held even with parties that could be threatened.
