Kylian Mbappé was substituted at half-time and watched the second half of Paris Saint-Germain's draw with his former club Monaco with his mother in the stands.
Mbappe, PSG's all-time top scorer with 244 goals, has agreed a deal to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Coach Luis Enrique replaced him at half-time with Randal Kolo Muani.
“This was 100% the coach's decision, because sooner or later we will have to get used to playing without Kylian Mbappé,” coach Luis Enrique said.
“I made this decision for the benefit of the team.”
Mbappe, 25, changed into a jersey and spoke on his cell phone in the tunnel before joining his family in the crowd instead of his teammates on the bench.
PSG will visit Real Sociedad on Tuesday in the second leg of the Champions League last 16.
The champions are 12 points behind Ligue 1 leaders Brest, with Monaco back in third place with a further point.
