Novak Djokovic (Serbia) got his revenge at the Monte Carlo Masters with a straight-sets win over Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Djokovic, who lost to Musetti in the last 16 stage of Monte Carlo last year, came back from a serve down in the first set to win 7-5, 6-3.
The 36-year-old Serbian becomes only the second player in the Open era to reach the Monte Carlo quarter-finals 10 times.
The world number one will next face Australia's Alex de Minaur.
Djokovic won five of the last six games to come back in the first set, then suffered a breakup in the second set before losing serve twice.
But the two-time champion, playing in his first tournament since parting ways with former coach Goran Ivanisevic, was able to respond to those setbacks and serve out an endearing match.
He will be aiming to reach his first semi-final in the tournament since De Minaur nine years ago, when he defeated compatriot Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-4.
“I don't think I'm at the top level yet, but today was a great test against a great player, a very talented player,” Djokovic said.
Italy's second seed Jannik Sinner He defeated Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-2 and will now face seventh-seeded Holger Ruhn (Denmark) or ninth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov (Belarus) in the quarterfinals.
However, fourth seed Daniil Medvedev was eliminated by his fellow Russian, losing 6-3, 7-5. Karen Khachanov.
Khachanov will meet Stefanos Tsitsipas The Greek 12th seed defeated Germany's Alexander Zverev 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to win the last eight.
