African National Congress (ANC) veteran and former Gauteng premier Tokyo Sexwale says the ruling party's mansion is on fire and it is up to party veterans to put out the raging flames. He spoke to the media during an ANC campaign in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg.
Mr Sexware and former party leaders including Thabo Mbeki, Galema Motlanthe and David Mabuza have joined the ANC's election campaign, with Baleka Mbete and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka soon to join. I plan to.
Sexwale says the party is at risk because the organization has done a lot of things wrong over the years.
For now, he said, it is necessary to help the current leadership realize the 1994 dream of a better life for all, and then deal with internal problems.
“Ntoro ya heso ya sha, when your house or your father's house was on fire, you didn't ask what was going on around you, you took a bucket and joined the others and we Put out the fire and let's talk later. Ntate Maile what was the cause of the problem, but for now the house is on fire, that's why we join these leaders to right the wrong. We are here to ensure that a better life for our people is not just a dream but an achievement.”
First-time voter Lindiwe Tsabangu said she planned to vote for the ruling ANC, but hoped that youth unemployment would be resolved.
“My hope is that we young people vote for the ANC, get job opportunities and can study at NSFAS without any problems. If we vote for the ANC, they give us jobs and opportunities. So voting is important.”
This week, the ANC has deployed all its members to KwaZulu-Natal, where the party is under siege, leading a fierce election campaign.
