Western Cape Premier Alan Winde addressed Democratic Alliance (DA) supporters in Cape Town on Saturday, asking them to think about what freedom means to them.
Winde says South Africa's high crime rate, high unemployment and poverty have all but wiped out the joy, hopes and dreams of 1994.
He asked DA supporters to consider what good freedom is when children cannot be fed.
Winde compared the country's 30 years of democracy to the 15 years the state attorney's office has run the state. He reflected on what he called the successes enjoyed by the Western Cape Provincial Prosecutor's Office.
“And when I look at the difference between this state and other states and what we've accomplished, I know that to have true freedom you need to be able to work and that you're free from crime. “I don't think there is a perfect society, but I believe that children need to be able to go to school without being hit by stray bullets, that they can actually reach their potential if they put in the effort,” he said. I think what we have built over the past 15 years is amazing. It's the opposite. ”

Freedom Day Celebration in Durban
Members celebrating Freedom Day in Greyville, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, believe the DA is the only political party that can solve the challenges facing South Africans.
The DA is one of the parties plotting to wrest the province from the African National Congress (ANC) in the next general election.
Danyl White and Thobeka Mkhize said there was optimism that MPs would be up to the task under the leadership of KwaZulu-Natal party leadership candidate Chris Pappas. They say they vote to ensure their wishes come true.
“Yes, there is actually a lot to celebrate today because we know the party is fighting for KZN and Chris Pappas is already bringing about change. We celebrate Freedom Day because we know there will be more to celebrate and more jobs to be found.”
“The DA must celebrate Freedom Day to ensure young people have skills that will help them access employment opportunities. The DA needs to celebrate Freedom Day to ensure young people have skills that will help them access employment opportunities. The DA will help tackle the water crisis across South Africa I’m there to do it.”
