Legal analyst Mpumelelo Zikalala said the disciplinary hearing for former African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma was long overdue.
The former president is scheduled to appear at a disciplinary hearing next Tuesday.
This was made clear in a document by the ANC's National Disciplinary Commission (NDC).
Mr Zuma is said to have been charged with two offences.
He is accused of violating the ANC constitution when he publicly supported the newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party and was on the MK party's candidate list.
“It was about time they reminded the former president that either you resign as a member of the ANC. If you don't do that, we will resign you,” Zikalala said. ” If I take you before a disciplinary proceeding, you [know] Regardless of what the constitution says, you are in control of this party. ”
“You know exactly what the rules are. If you look at Rule 4 and Rule 5, they clearly state what the obligations are: the oath you have taken. If you break that oath by participating in it or publicly acknowledging it, you have broken the final rule of the ANC constitution,” Zikalala added.
Meanwhile, the MK party says it is prepared to show its support in large numbers when its leader attends a disciplinary hearing.
MK party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlera confirmed that Mr Zuma appeared likely to face these charges.
“We don't understand what all this fuss is about. That's why we've won and continue to win all these lawsuits. And it's clear that it's an act of desperation on their part. “If I were them, I would listen to their leader, the former president.” [Thabo] For the first time, Mr Mbeki gave them some words of wisdom. ”
