Jodie Cundy returned to the track after a stint on the dance floor with a comfortable win at the US Track Championships in Manchester.
The five-time Paralympic cycling champion and last year's Strictly Come Dancing contestant retained his C4-5 national time trial title.
Kandi, 45, clocked a time of 1 minute 4.527 seconds, with Blaine Hunt and Archie Atkinson in second and third place.
“It's nice to get back to doing what I know how to do,” Cundy told BBC Sport.
“The World Championships are in four weeks, so it was good to get a marker here. This is a really important year, so it was great to get my first ride and be in the right ballpark.”
In the aftermath of last year's national championships, former competitive swimmer Kandi said in a social media post that she was emotionally “at rock bottom” and “struggling”, but 12 months later she was buoyed by her Strictly experience. We are celebrating the Paris Paralympic year.
“Looking back at where I was 12 months ago…yes, I had the jersey, but it was one of my lowest points, so I started this year's competition feeling good about my riding. I was able to get it…I'm having fun,' again,'' said Kandi, who has won 20 world titles at this track.
“The confidence I gained from doing Strictly… it was good to be out of the sport for a while and then come back with the motivation to keep going.
“Apart from injury and illness, I have never taken time off from sport and this year marks my 30th year as a British athlete. Let’s get that exposure and then go back to where we are.’ Left Off is really great. ”
