The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) in Parliament said it opposes any attempt to suspend Parliamentary Secretary Zorir George.
It is said that there is an attempt to trigger the suspension before the end of the 6th Congress.
The union says it supports how George has transformed the organization since taking over as chief executive in 2022. Mr George says he has rejected plans to build modular structures on council while repairs to damaged buildings are underway.
The construction reportedly cost R600 million.
Nehau National Assembly Speaker Sembiso Tembe said: “What we heard is that once he is suspended, they will appoint one of the secretaries of both houses and that person will be given the responsibility of reappointing him. That's true.'' It's a question of modular structure. That means they go back to the specific problem where he left off and build that modular structure. ”
Mr Tembe said some people involved in the inquiry report appeared to be shielded from facing its consequences.
“And in terms of the investigative report, we want to say that as a union we recognize that not everyone involved in the report has faced its consequences. “We know that there are other people involved in this report besides those facing us,” he says.
He said he opposed the appointment of those involved in the report.
“And the information we have is that one of the secretaries that both houses are expected to appoint is one of the people involved in that particular report. As organized labor, we will oppose it,” Tembe explains.
