Ritchie residents in the Northern Cape said they hoped ANC vice-president Paul Mashatil's visit was not an empty promise. This small town, located 30 kilometers outside the Kimberley, has faced service delivery problems in recent years.
Certain areas of Ritchie continue to use the bucket system, while other areas lack reliable water and electricity supplies.
Residents feel they have been forgotten and are calling on the ruling party to address their problems.
“Crime has increased so much because of the lack of jobs. So employment opportunities are very important for young people. Our community has always been dirty, but now the vice president has come and everything is clean. That's a big problem, we run out of water between 8 o'clock and 5 o'clock.''
“Until now there was no electricity and the load was reduced. That's why it's gone.”
Mr Mashatile assured Ritchie residents that all service delivery challenges are over.
“We have a policy, we have a plan. What we have to do is focus on implementation and do it faster. That's what we're trying to do, and the people That's why we say in our manifesto: “Together we can do more.'' We're going to work with them now, and we want all of our counselors, chapters and councilors to be on the ground. ”
