Many residents in the North West are flocking to Home Office offices to receive identity cards that will enable them to take part in tomorrow's general election.
The state's Department of Home Affairs reported that there were over 23,000 identity cards yet to be collected as at 24 May 2024. Several people collecting their identity cards at the Mmabaso Department of Home Affairs office today expressed their enthusiasm to vote.
One resident said: “I just came here to get my ID card as I want to vote tomorrow. There is a lot of youth unemployment in Mahikeng and the roads are full of potholes.”
Another said: “I came here to get my ID card because I want to go vote tomorrow and have my voice heard. Unemployment is a big problem and corruption is rampant.”
A third person added: “We came to the Ministry of Interior to get our ID cards to go vote tomorrow, especially since we are struggling at work. We want to go vote tomorrow.”
Another resident expressed a desire for change, saying, “I want to vote to change the current state of this country.”
The rush to collect ID cards highlights residents' determination to take part in the election and address issues affecting their communities.
