Official results from the 2024 national and provincial elections, with 59% of results counted by Friday morning, are starting to close in on predictions that the ANC will lose support nationwide.
The ruling party was expected to win just 40% of the vote, and a bright blue leaderboard released by the South African Electoral Commission (IEC) announcing the official results confirmed that the ANC's support had hit its lowest point since 1994, below 50%, a 30-year milestone that no party hopes to reach.
Official results showed that 59% of votes had been counted by 11am on Friday, meaning that 13,763 of South Africa's 23,293 voting constituencies had been counted and verified.
The actual results are in full agreement with predictions.

Official results showed the ANC had 41.9% of the vote, the DA had 23.3% and former president Jacob Zuma's Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party had 11.3%. The EFF came in fourth with 9.5% of the vote and the IFP in fifth place with 2.7%.
The Patriotic Alliance (PA) came in sixth with 2.6% of the vote, likely to enter parliament for the first time since its formation 10 years ago, followed by the Freedom Front Plus (1.5%) and Action SA (1.1%).
- In Gauteng, the ANC has 35% support, the DA 28.5%, the EFF 12.3%, MK 10.3% and ActionSA 3%.
- In KwaZulu-Natal, official results show MK on 43.9%, the ANC on 18.9%, the IFP on 15.4%, the DA on 14.8% and the EFF on 2.4%.
- In the Western Cape, the DA has 52.8% support, the ANC 20.4%, the PA 8.9% and the EFF 4.9%.
- In the Eastern Cape, the ANC has 65.8% support, the DA 12.4%, the EFF 9.6% and the United Democratic Movement 2.8%.
The ANC suffered a heavy defeat in Mpumalanga, receiving only 49.8% of the vote, with MK coming in second with 18% and the DA coming third with 13.2%.
The ANC is also struggling to get past the 50% threshold in the Northern Cape, where the official result currently stands at 49.2%.
The ANC continues to lead in Limpopo, the Free State and the North West, although its support appears to be declining slightly in these provinces as well.

With the exception of the MK party, which is gaining significant support from the ANC, approval ratings for many new parties are stagnating, while the DA's report is stable.
According to the IEC results, all votes have been counted and are currently being verified. Unless there are any issues during the verification process, the publication of 100% of the results is expected to be completed by Saturday morning.
