During that season, the Pirates defeated the Chiefs 2-0 on November 15, 2008. Gilbert Mushangahike and Lucas Twala scored for the Bucks on the day.
In the second Soweto derby of the season, Pirates defeated Chiefs again, this time winning 2-1 with Katlego Mashego scoring twice and Swara scoring an own goal.
