The Judicial Conduct Tribunal hearing sexual harassment allegations against High Court Eastern Cape Judge Selby Mbenenge continued on Tuesday with evidence from complainant Andiswa Mengo.
The complainant alleges that the alleged sexual harassment took place between June 2021 and November 2022 through face-to-face and electronic communications, which she says were unwanted.
The courtroom was originally scheduled to be partially open to the public and partially in camera.
Chief Justice Selby Mbenenge initially opposed hearings into the first-of-its-kind judicial inquiry.
As a result, a judgment was issued in December 2024 ordering a hybrid trial. However, a turn of events on Monday (January 13, 2025) resulted in a change in the Supreme Court's position, resulting in the court issuing a new order and the full hearing now being made public.
