The South African entertainment industry has woken up to the sad news of the untimely death of popular DJ and MC Mashata (real name Peter Mabuse).
DJ MASHATA reportedly shot dead
According to various sources, including: crime in SA, Mashata was shot dead in a hail of bullets in Soshanguve, a town northwest of Pretoria.
The DJ, also popularly known as 'Musindo' or 'Noise Maker', is said to have played his final set at the All Blacks event hosted at Epogeni Lifestyle in Soshanguve Blok G.
Photos of his car hit by gunfire are also being circulated on social media.
Who is Mashata?
Mashata was born in Hammanskraal, Gauteng and grew up in Mabopane, a settlement located in the Tshwane metropolitan area north of Pretoria, Gauteng. He studied at the Tshwane University of Technology.
Mashata became popular on social media for his combination of love for comedy, broadcasting, and soul music. In his popular videos, he hilariously talks about relationships and love, often creating scenarios during storytime with soul music playing in the background.
He also works as a sports analyst on TUT FM 96.20 and as a stadium announcer for Orlando Pirates FC. Additionally, he owned an entertainment company called Mashata-Tainment.
Although Mashata is considered a comedian, he admitted that he is not funny in an interview with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Fenduka on Kaya FM in December 2022.
In an interview, he revealed that although he was very noisy at school and around town, he was very quiet at home and had a hard time expressing his feelings because he was afraid of his father, which is why he got the nickname Mashata.
Relationship with the late DJ SUMBODY
Mashata was a close friend of murdered musician DJ Sambodi, whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka. The host was also the program director for Sunbody's funeral.
The co-owner of Ipiep Lifestyle was shot dead in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on November 20, 2022, on the morning of the annual All White Picnic.
In January of this year, another friend of DJ Sumbody, DJ Vettys, was shot and killed. Fortunately he survived.
