President Muhammadu Buhari leaves Abuja on Wednesday for a three-day state visit. The Republic of South Africa, at the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa, joined to discuss the welfare of Nigerians and find common ground for harmonious relations with the host country.
The visit came against the backdrop of recent xenophobic attacks, the evacuation of hundreds of Nigerians, and reciprocal visits by special envoys of Presidents Buhari and Ramaphosa.
While in South Africa, Nigerian leaders held a town hall meeting with Nigerians living in the country to share their experiences and encourage the Nigerian government's efforts to protect their lives and property and promote peaceful cooperation. The purpose is to reaffirm our determination to do so. -Existence.
President Buhari and his hosts will preside over the South Africa-Nigeria Bilateral Commission, where a progress report will be presented. After the meeting, the two leaders will sign a joint communiqué.
The delegation, including the President and representatives of Nigerian businessmen, will also participate in the South Africa-Nigeria Business Forum along with the host country.
President Buhari will be accompanied by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State and Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Others include Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeffrey Onyema, Minister of Defence, and Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.). Minister of Electricity, Ministry of Engineering Saleh Manman; Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arch. Olamilekan Adegbite. Minister of Police Maigali Dinyadi. and Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador. Mariam Katagam.
The National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.) will also accompany him. Director of National Intelligence, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar; Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa.
The President is scheduled to return to Abuja on Friday.
