South Africans have until midnight on Friday 23 February to register to vote, as the commission expects Prime Minister Ramaphosa and the premier to announce the election date. Voter registers close after midnight on the day the declaration is published. There are 27.6 million voters registered on the voter list.
National party liaison committee meeting
A committee meeting will be held on Saturday or Sunday to finalize the election schedule. The committee's name is expected to be changed to the National Political Liaison Committee to accommodate independent candidates.
If no amendments or submissions are made, the final schedule document will be submitted to political parties. It is expected to be published in the Government Gazette on Monday or Tuesday.

There are three ballots for each voter.
1. Pink – National Ballot.
2. Blue – Local ballot paper.
3. Orange – Local to national voting.
The layout of the ballot paper will remain the same, including the party name, leader's face, party abbreviation, and logo. The key identifying factors for an independent candidate are face, name, last name, and the acronym her IND.
According to the IEC, for a political party to contest an election, it must:
- Registered with IEC.
- Submit a list of candidates within the specified period of the election calendar.
- Pay the relevant deposit within the specified period specified in the election schedule.
