President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was committed to working with all parties and sectors to find solutions to the challenges facing the country.
President Ramaphosa made the remarks during his acceptance speech at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria today.
The President said this solemn oath expresses the will of the South African people, unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and the obligation to unite all South Africans.
“Today, as President of all South Africans, I solemnly pledge to uphold our Constitution and defend our democracy, to work with all those who share the dream of a better life for all, to care for the poor and the vulnerable, to support all those in need, and to make our country stronger, more resilient, more equal and more united.”
President Ramaphosa also assured South Africans that their cries have been heard and that the Government of National Unity (GNU) will not rest until all South Africans have access to all the services they need.
Former President Jacob Zuma was the only former president not to attend the ceremony.
Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Kagalema Moslante attended along with other heads of state from the African continent and overseas.
President Ramaphosa says the people are clear about what they want.
“Through their vote, they made it clear that they want the things that are essential to a comfortable, happy, healthy and safe life. Through their vote, they asserted that they want enough food, clean water and affordable electricity at all times.”
