In his New Year's message, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the wide-ranging economic reforms his government initiated in its sixth administration are bearing fruit.
But despite progress made this year, he says there is much more to do to overcome the challenges facing South Africans in 2025.
Mr Ramaphosa said government must work with urgency and purpose to grow an inclusive economy and create jobs.
“Our economy is slowly but steadily improving, more South Africans are finding work, inflation is falling and essential goods are becoming more affordable for households. 2024 In 2019, South Africa achieved its first primary surplus in 15 years, and public sector investment increased for another year in a row,” the President added.

On energy, Prime Minister Ramaphosa said the country has made great strides in addressing the energy crisis it has recently faced.
Power company Eskom has taken steps to stabilize the country's power grid after rolling blackouts continued for more than nine months.
Mr Ramaphosa elaborates: “We are emerging from a debilitating energy crisis that is causing untold hardship for our people, households and businesses. This country has now gone 280 days without any load shedding. We continue to work to deliver electricity, drive major new investment in energy generation and establish a more competitive energy market.”
