Rangers manager Philippe Clement is delighted that Willie Collum will be refereeing Saturday night's Scottish Cup game against Ayr United.
After the game against Celtic in December, Rangers asked the Scottish Football Association not to involve referees in the match.
Collum acted as VAR during Celtic's 2-1 win and Rangers believe they should have asked referee Nick Walsh to consider the possibility of Alistair Johnstone's handball. .
“I'm happy to be honest. I can leave this story behind,” Clement said.
“If there was ever a moment where I thought the referee was not neutral, I would quit my job. So I'm glad to put the past behind me.
“For me there was a mistake and it was an obvious handball, but I'm not without my faults either. I probably make mistakes every day.
“I'm not looking at people. If they make a mistake, they're dead for life or something. No, this is a new game, a new situation.
“It's important not to live in the past. I don't want the players to live in the past for the past few weeks or months. What matters is the next game and the performance there.”
“And if we make a mistake, you expect to get another chance to prove that you're better. That's how I live my life. Masu.”
Asked if he wished the Scottish FA had been consulted before the request was made, Clement said: “It's internal to the club and we've talked about it. I think that will happen in the future, yeah.” answered.
Clement also admitted he was unable to overturn Dujon Sterling's red card against Aberdeen in midweek, saying he knew the introduction of VAR would not eliminate the “gray area” in refereeing.
“That's the essence of football, it's never black and white,” added the Belgian.
“There's a gray area, and being a referee in that gray area is a difficult job. That's one of the charms of soccer.” [although] I don't feel that way sometimes when it's against you.
“It's very important to be clear, but there's always going to be a gray area. Maybe that was the mistake that everyone had when VAR came out, that there would be no gray area.”
“That's not possible, because there are so many nuances in every action. This was a gray area. It was against us and we have to accept it.”
