Atlético Madrid scored the equalizer in stoppage time to salvage a point from a derby with La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Stefan Savic headed Antoine Griezmann's corner kick, but his equalizer was ruled out for offside.

However, with seconds remaining, Marcos Llorente headed home Memphis Depay's flick-on to score.

Brahim had joined the team at the last minute after Vinicius Junior was injured during the warm-up and thought he had scored the winning goal before the second-half equalizer.

He nearly doubled his opponent's advantage, but his shot went just wide of the target after creating a chance with some deft footwork.

Atlético also had a chance. Real Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin, who recently replaced Kepa in the squad, made a superb save to deny Axel Witsel's header and then denied Griezmann's flicked shot.

It was the third meeting between the rivals in 2024, with Real winning 5-3 in extra time in the Spanish Super Cup and Atlético winning 4-2 in extra time in the Copa del Rey.

The draw puts Carlo Ancelotti's side two points ahead of surprise package Girona, who drew 0-0 with Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Defending champions Barcelona have fallen a further six points, while Atlético are now 10 points adrift of the leaders.
