Legendary producer and director Danny Odendaal, a leading figure in the television industry, has died at the age of 77.
Award-winning producer and renowned creator of SABC 2's hit soapies 7 de laanDaniel Odendaal, died in Langebaan on Wednesday, October 30th.
Odendaal, 77, passed away after a short battle with illness.
The veteran television producer and director suffered a stroke a few years ago in 2019 while living abroad in Pervilac, France.
After his stroke, Odendaal and his wife Annie Basson returned to South Africa and settled in Langebaan on the west coast.
The exact cause of his death is still unknown, apart from the fact that his health had been deteriorating over the past few months.

Odendaal's family announced his death in a statement, paying tribute to the pioneering producer, screenwriter and actor.
“Danny lived a life full of creativity and warmth, quietly shaping the world around him through his storytelling. Known for his humor and wit, he had a way of speaking his mind. He was an inspiration to those lucky enough to know him.

Odendaal studied at Stellenbosch University in France, the Sorbonne University and Trinity College in Cambridge, England before joining the SABC as a director during the early days of South African television.
