On Friday, countries around the world called on Israel to respect, or be pressured into respecting, the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) order to stop genocide in Gaza.
Israel's initial reaction suggested that it would not do so voluntarily, and certainly not in the way South Africa believed necessary.
This will shift focus to the UN Security Council, which acts as a kind of executive branch of the ICJ and has veto power over the United States.
