The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has canceled the broadcast of the 73rd Miss Universe competition.
The winner of the competition will be crowned this Sunday, and the SABC has promised it will be broadcast.
However, hours after Miss South Africa Mia Le Roux withdrew from the competition, renowned entertainment critic Phil Mphela reported that the SABC had canceled the broadcast.
Miss SA organizers released a statement Friday morning announcing Mia Le Roux's withdrawal.
He is said to have left the company for health reasons.
“I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time as Miss Universe. Knowing the dreams and aspirations that were placed on me, this decision was incredibly difficult to make. However, I will give my all. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I can continue to serve my country,” Mia said.
