The Home Office has reapplied for long-awaited changes to the work permit system to allow for the creation of so-called nomad visas for remote workers.
The changes, which had been withdrawn last month after the ministry missed a mandatory public comment period, were published on May 20, meaning they have become law.
It also calls for people employed and paid by other companies to be allowed to live in the country as long as they earn at least R1 million a year.
This visa comes with short-term tax exemption.
The move was taken on the recommendation of the presidential administration and comes amid criticism from some of the country's biggest foreign employers over their inability to bring in engineers and executives.
South Africa's Byzantine system forces applicants to wait more than a year to obtain a work permit, even though businesses lack skilled workers due to the poor local education system.
