Saudi Arabia launched its campaign to host the 2034 World Cup on Friday, a bid that is almost certain to succeed after no other expressions of interest were received by the FIFA deadline late last year.
With Morocco, Portugal and Spain sharing the hosting of the 2030 tournament, international governing body FIFA has restricted the 2034 tournament to participants from federations in Asia and Oceania.
Saudi Arabia becomes the second country in the Gulf region to host this high-profile event, after neighboring Qatar hosted the 2022 final.
The Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) said it would “grow together”. The World Cup campaign will demonstrate how the country is strengthening its ties with other countries through sport.
“Football Story”
Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in high-profile sports such as soccer, Formula 1, boxing and golf in recent years, with critics saying the oil-rich kingdom is “sportswashing” its human rights record. He blames it.
The country denies accusations of human rights abuses and says it protects national security through the law.
“It is very important to share our football history with the world,” SAFF President Yasser Al Misehar said in a statement.
“We have made unprecedented progress in both the men’s and women’s competitions and our bid is an open invitation to the world to join us on this exciting journey. .”
The next step in the process is to submit the full bid document to FIFA in July, with the nominations for both the 2030 and 2034 World Cups expected to be approved at a FIFA conference towards the end of the year.
The next World Cup will be held in 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
