Gauteng police conducted a raid in Fordsburg on Thursday, confiscating illegal goods worth R11 million and R40 000, and arresting 37 illegal foreign nationals.
Gauteng police seized R26-million worth of illegal counterfeit goods during a two-day raid in the Joburg CBD this week.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk said teams seized R40,000 in abandoned cash on Thursday and arrested 37 illegal foreign nationals.
Van Wyk said SAPS, Home Office officials, SARS and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) raided 18 stores in Fordsburg on Thursday and seized more than 8,000 counterfeit electronic devices from the 18 stores.
“During this operation, more than 8,000 items imitating famous brands were seized, including mobile phone chargers, mobile phone covers, counterfeit labels and mobile phones.The seized items included headphones, earbuds, Bluetooth It also contained various illegal electronic products, such as speakers,” which are in violation of the Electronic Communications Act No. 36 of 2005 and the Icasa Amendment Act No. 03 of 2006,” Van Wyk said.
On Wednesday, law enforcement seized R15-million worth of counterfeit goods in the same area and one person was arrested on suspicion of possessing, manufacturing and dealing in counterfeit goods.
